Doing laundry together

Doesn't the idea of being buried in warm laundry fresh from the dryer just sound wonderful?

Avonlea thinks so too.

A few more family portraits

Now that I have my hands on ALL of them, I wanted to share a few more of my favorites. Avonlea was 3 1/2 weeks old here. Thanks again to Angie at One Thousand Words for this priceless gift.

First time in the pool

We took Avonlea to the Y on Saturday for her first swim--she cried. But after she got used to the water (it's in the mid-eighties), she seemed to enjoy floating around, especially on her back. It was pretty sweet and all the moms there made much of her. We were afraid she would get too cold, though, so we pulled her out after about five minutes. When do babies get to enjoy the water in earnest?

I was a huge water baby and was known for swimming from end to end of our backyard pool underwater from the time I was five. I spent my summers biking to the community pool and spending all day at free swim from ages 7 to 12. Matt was on swim team as a kid and skiing on those Minnesota lakes since he was tiny. We're hoping by exposing Aves early, she'll be into it too.

We didn't get any shots of her in the water, but I thought she looked fetching in her tiny suit. :)

Happy Valentine's Day!

How I love red, pink, hearts, and flowers. Valentine's Day is such a bright spot at the end of winter. And with the early spring here and the cherry trees blossoming and the pussywillows budding, it feels lighter already.

This year, I made a cake from this month's Bon Apetit magazine for some friends we shared a Valentine's dinner with on Friday night: Devil's Food Cake with Sour Cream Fudge Frosting. It was yum.

And then, Saturday morning, Matt and I had our first date without the bean since she was born: brunch at an idyllic little Parisian-style cafe, Cafe Campagne in Pike's Place Market. Thanks for sitting, grandma and grandpa!

Rosemary and golden raisin brioche toast with Cassis sparking wine

Matt's Burger D'agneau: lamb burger with balsamic onions and roasted red pepper. The pommes frites with aioli were unbelievable.

My Omlette Choisy: french style rolled omelette with herbs, chevre and escarole.

Afterward, we enjoyed the market and Matt bought me a sweet little silver necklace with my name on it. We also found some tulips and gorgeous asparagus for dinner that night.

How was YOUR Valentine's Day? Do tell...

Family Pictures

Here are a few pictures from the shoot that Angie at One Thousand Words Photography did a few weeks ago. I think Avonlea was 3 or 4 weeks old at the time. Hopefully more will come to share as well!
